How to decorate your garden for Halloween?

Your garden is what people see at first when they pass by your home. It's important to keep a beautiful, lush garden that fits your lifestyle and taste. This Halloween, we invite you to spice up you yard with some SPOOKtacular Halloween decorations!

If you're decorating on a budget, there's various little or no cost ideas you can try, like the following:
  1. Old, White Bed Sheet: We're sure you've seen this on TV or the very famous Charlie Brown's "The Great Pumpkin." If you have an old, white bed sheet lying around the house, it's time to put it to good use! Cut two wholes with scissors for eyes, and you're ready to go. Throw it over a small bush in your garden and viola! You've got a home-made ghost to BOO your trick-or-treaters with.
  2. Nothing works better than the dollar store! The best decorations aren't always the most expensive and there's lots you can get at the dollar store. From window stickers, to inexpensive spider webs, let your mind go wild.
  3. Set the mood with a jack o' lantern: Even if your front door has nothing else but a carved pumpkin, this is enough to set the mood. Turn the lights our and just leave the pumpkin lit with a tea-light candle.
There are many other fun Halloween ideas all over the internet. Remember, anything you use this Halloween can easily be reused next year! Gonzalez Landscaping wishes you a happy and safe Halloween!

How to organize plants in my garden...

Believe it or not gardens can reflect many traits of our personality. Since there are many options of plants and flowers and ways to organize them, you can choose the ones you like the most and make your landscape a work of art. There are several things to take into consideration when organizing the plants in your garden so they stay fresh and full of life:

• Start with the basics. Good soil preparation is the key for a healthy looking garden.
• Try to match the colors and properties of the flowers you mix.
• Use flowers and plants with similar needs: water, sun and soil conditions so they all maintain a nice appearance.
• Analyze the surroundings. Plant your flowers in an appropriate place for them to grow, if you plant them near mature trees its roots will absorb the nutrients and provide shade making it difficult for flowers to blossom.
• Look for places to create new flower beds, borders or islands in a place where they look great and get the nutrients they need.
• Be aware of the style and architecture of your home. Also the background for the landscape.
• Keep in mind the size of your yard available for gardening. Try to use appropriate plants for each size so none of them provide shade or restrict airflow to the others. You can call Gonzalez Plant and Tree services to help achieve the garden of your dreams; we will make sure to exceed your expectations with a garden that reflects your personality and taste.

How do I keep my grass green during the summer?

Coping with the summer heat can be hard work, not just for us but also for our garden. Keeping our garden green during the summer can be more challenging but it is certainly not impossible. At Gonzalez Landscaping and tree services we provide the best services for your grass, lawn or yard and we would like to share with you some tips to keep your grass green during the summertime.
  • Water deeply but infrequently: set your irrigation system or if you do it yourself, schedule to water your grass more deeply during the summer. The heat will absorb this water more quickly so you need to make it abundant. Don't do shallow watering every day, it is preferred to water with lots of water less frequently.
  • Feed your grass every 6-8 weeks. A well fed grass grows thicker which cools the soil and crowds out weeds.
  • In the summer, you can mow the lawn a little higher; this way the soil will be more protected and moist from the intense heat.
  • Water early in the morning, this way you reduce the evaporation water waste.
  • Reseed and renovate on dry or old patches. Some spots may have grown a variety that can't handle heat. You can replace them with heat friendly grass.

How to keep your garden looking green and healthy!

Having a green, fresh and lush garden is an incredible way to make your home look beautiful. Some people love to spend hours maintaining the yard or garden but others simply do not have the time.  You can keep your grass looking healthy and green without having to make much effort; enjoy the benefits with a small amount of work…How?
  • Use a good and appropriate fertilizer for your grass type. Only use it once a year (in the Fall is a good time to do it)
  • Buy a weed killer that works for your grass.
  • Spread a mild insect killer to eliminate or prevent bugs or pests to deteriorate your grass.
  • Use a sprinkler/irrigation system: this way you don´t need to water them every day and they will automatically stay fresh and healthy.
  • Mow your lawn at the highest setting on your mower (about 3 ½ - 4 inches). It is healthier looking grass when it´s a little taller because weed is harder to grow, the soil stays cooler and moist for a longer time, and it helps create more nutrients.
  • Let the grass clippings stay in the grass, these turn into compost useful for the soil.
It is always recommendable to call a professional at least once a year to review your lawn and let you know if anything else is needed. If you are having problems with your garden or would like to create a beautiful landscape on your home call Gonzalez Landscaping & Tree Service and we will work with you to create the garden of your dreams!

The Magic of a Great Looking Lawn with Sod Grass

We all want to live in home with a beautiful, green lawn. Sometimes, naturally planted seed grass takes a lot of time to blossom and get the right color and texture. However, now you can get a natural looking lawn with sod grass!

Sod grass is basically grass that has been previously planted and comes ready to build in your own yard. It is sold in sections and comes with its own soil held together by roots, giving you natural grass almost instantly! This technique is also recommended because it is more abundant, fertile and grows more evenly.

If you are struggling between seed or sod, you may want to consider the time and cost it takes to perfect each technique. Sod takes much less time to install than seed, get results more quickly and you can install it any time of the year.

With Gonzalez Landscaping and Tree services you will have the best lawn in town with very competitive prices. We offer the best service; have experienced contractors and extremely high quality grass. Call us today for your estimate!
